Video Praises Police in Sindh, Pakistan Misleading: one image contains a wrongful attribution

Debunk:

This video is referencing a developing story regarding mass applications for leave amongst the Sindh Police, following the arrest of a prominent Opposition politician, retired Captain Mohammad Safdar. The arrest allegedly happened under dubious circumstances where high ranking officials in the Sindh police may have been forced to carry it out.

Most of the images in this TikTok video can be traced to their source and most are clips of authentic news reports.

However, the second image in the video shows what appears to be a tweet from a late-night Pakistani comedian. This is misleading. The tweet is from a parody Twitter account.

Here is the breakdown and sources of the images:

  1. Mushtaq Meher, Sindh Police Chief
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2166322/1-cabinet-approves-mushtaq-mehar-new-sindh-police-chief
He had also applied for leave under these circumstances

  2. This is a photo of Umar Sharif, a late-night Pakistani comedian. The following is the tweet from where this quote came:
    https://twitter.com/UmerShareefPk/status/1318447435455385600
However, this account explains that it is an “unofficial and parody” account. The following is Umar Sharif’s real account:
    https://twitter.com/UmerShareefPk/status/1318447435455385600
This makes the quote misleading, as it looks to be false attribution to the real Umar Sharif
  3. Maryam Nawaz is the current Vice-President of the Opposition party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN). This tweet is from her official account: https://twitter.com/MaryamNSharif/status/1318564146942717952
  4. News one is a Karachi based news organization

The original broadcast couldn’t be found, but in the context of the overall story it is likely real.
